Woven fabrics such as Sunbrella accept painted graphics. We apply these graphics using special methods to ensure that the graphic will have crisp edges and will last the life of the cover. Painted graphics are limited to spot colors, and they are not suited well for very detailed artwork. We specifically do not use the Sunbrella Graphic System, which uses a patented technology to apply vinyl graphics to Sunbrella fabric. We have found that these graphics are prone to peeling, especially on loose hanging valances.
Most vinyl awning fabrics, such as Weblon accept high performance vinyl graphics. Vinyl graphics are less expensive than painted graphics, but are better suited for stretched panels. We do not recommend that vinyl graphics be applied to hanging valances, because they can have a tendency to peel over time. Vinyl graphics can be spot color or digitally printed as a full color image. Like painted graphics, artwork detail is also somewhat limited because vinyl has a tendency to peel when applied in small or detailed pieces.
Fabritech is the only full-service awning company in the New Orleans Metro area to manufacture fully printed awning covers. We offer the latest in printing technology, which allows us to print virtually any graphic on a variety of materials. We also have the capability to print custom colors or patterns that are not available in traditional awning fabrics. Although printed graphics generally do not last as long as vinyl or painted graphics, our printed awning covers offer the longest life span available in the industry today. Printed awnings can also be used in backlit applications.
Some backlit awning fabrics such as Cooley Brite, Signtech, or Eradi-Lite have an eradicable surface. Graphics on this surface can be “erased” out of the colored face of the material. Additionally, translucent vinyl graphics can be added to the white “erased” surface to add color to the graphics. These graphics can be illuminated from behind to allow the awning to double as a backlit sign.
